Welney Road Closure

Ref: HS/12/82/PM4126/DB/PC

For Immediate Release

18 December 2017

One week road closure on A1101 Wisbech Road, Welney for carriageway repairs and resurfacing

Work will begin on Monday 22 January to carry out major carriageway repair and resurfacing works on A1101 Wisbech Road, Welney. The works will take one week to complete subject to suitable weather conditions.

The site will extend from the junction with Chestnut Avenue through to the entrance to Welney House Farm. Repairs will be carried out to over 3,500 square metres of carriageway that has started to fail.

During the resurfacing works it will be necessary to close the road to all through traffic whilst works are in progress. A fully signed official diversion via A1101 Littleport, A10 Downham Market, A1122 Outwell and A1101 Upwell will be in operation for the duration of the works.

Access to businesses and properties within the limits of the closure will be maintained from one end at all times but it is inevitable that there will be some disruption.

The County Council would like to thank people for their patience while these works to replace the existing worn out road surface are carried out.

The work which will cost £105,000 will be carried out by Norfolk County Council’s Community & Environmental Services Department and their contractors.

Lining your food waste bin – information from Borough Council website

It is important that food waste is wrapped or placed in a bag when putting it into the outdoor bin as this helps to prevent food waste from sticking to the bin and keeps the bin cleaner.

Changes to the way that the food waste we collect is processed mean that you can use any of the following to put your food waste in or to line your bin:

  • plastic carrier bags
  • old fruit or vegetable bags
  • cereal box liners
  • any polythene bags
  • newspaper
  • or you can continue to use any compostable bags you may have

Bins that contain food waste that has not been wrapped or placed in a bag may not be emptied by the collection crews.

Please note, as there is no longer a requirement to use compostable caddy liners, we will not be stocking them for sale.
